形態特徵

Medium-sized evergreen trees to 60 cm in diameter, 12 m high; bark grayish-brown.
Leaves elliptic, oblong to ovate, 10–16 cm long, 3.5–4 cm broad, coriaceous, acuminate at apex, obtuse or acute at base, entire, midrib prominent on both sides, lateral veins 11–14 pairs; petioles 1.5 cm long.
Staminate flowers with 5–6-lobed perianth; stamens 10–12, about 2.5 mm long, 1.5 mm broad; reduced ovary present. Pistillate flowers usually 3–6-clustered, 2 mm long, 1.5 mm broad; ovary with 2–4 styles, stigmas pointed.
Cupules cup-shaped, 0.8 cm long, 1.5 cm across, scales connate into 6–7 concentric rings, tomentose;nuts ellipsoid, 2 cm long, 1.5 cm across.

物候

Staminate flowers blooming from March to May; fruits maturing from October to Feburary.

分布

台灣 : In forests at altitudes of 500–1,500 m throughout the island.
